Animal Status Rating System

When rating animals on how endangered they are, I wanted to use a symbol to alarm the reader of how safe or in danger the animal is. So, I decided to use a check and red exclamation points! Here is how to interpret my Animal Status Rating System:

Checkmark
Perfectly (somewhat) fine! Not in danger of extinction whatsoever. Currently not on the Federal Endangered Species List (or officially declared). Still an abundance of them in the wild.

1 Exclamation
Pretty stable, but has an uncertain future. Not quite as numerous anymore--we need to watch out.

2 Exclamations
Vulnerable. They are becoming a bit shaky, and may become endangered in the future. Be careful!

3 Exclamations
Threatened. May become endangered at any time, so watch out! Try to leave as little carbon footprint as possible! (Though you should be doing this all the time)

4 Exclamations
Endangered. Officially declared endangered, and/or is on the Federal Endangered Species List. We've got to do all we can to make sure these animals don't disappear from the face of Earth.

5 Exclamations
Critically Endangered. Emergency call! These animals are on the brink of extinction. Almost nothing of their population is left. They are in desperate need of our help! (Example: African White Rhino)

**Note: Rating only applies to the time the status was posted, and may no longer be accurate over time.
